As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine enters the 41st day, another heart-wrenching development has been reported from the war-torn country.

Ukrainian journalist Anastasiia Lapatina shared news of mothers writing their personal details on the bodies of their children incase the parents get killed and the child survives.

Taking to Twitter, the Kyiv Independent journalist wrote: “Ukrainian mothers are writing their family contacts on the bodies of their children in case they get killed and the child survives.”

She sarcastically adds “Europe is still discussing gas”, referring to the EU’s decision to place sanctions on Russian goods and services but not on oil or gas exports. The source of the image is an Instagram post by Sasha Makoyiv.

This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s accusation that Russia was committing a “genocide”. He also mentioned how children had been murdered by invading forces.

“We know that thousands of people have been killed and tortured with extremities cut off, women raped, children killed,” he told reporters.

In other reports, The Guardian in Ukraine alleged that Russian forces were using children as “human shields” as they attempted to flee.

Last week in the Ukrainian town of Bucha, children’s bodies were found along with the bodies of hundreds of people.
